Anthony's Travel takes 'Easy-to-Use' Genius On-Board

This year's winner of the UK coach operator of the year and coach operator of the year (medium sized fleets), Anthony's Travel has chosen the Genius journey management system, from Synectics, for its fleet of 16 coaches. Simplicity and ease of use gave Genius the edge over more complex rival systems.

Anthony's Travel fleet ranges from minicoaches to the 49-seater Euroliner, for travel within the UK. The company has used Synectics CCTV systems on its coaches for some time to great effect, allowing incident facts to be quickly checked and claims resolved. Initially Anthony's Travel will be using Genius to compliment the CCTV images with additional information such as braking force.

Genius will automatically collect 'live' vehicle and driver data including excessive vehicle movement, acceleration and braking. Data is downloaded to Synectics servers where a comprehensive range of reports can be accessed by operators, and drivers, securely via the Internet. Reports are available in a variety formats by driver, route, performance against benchmark performance, and events such as excessive acceleration and braking, together with custom reports.

“Like all coach operators we are busy people with a business to run. Some systems we considered were so complex that it would have been a full-time job trying to make them work. Genius, on the other hand, is easy to use and give quick access to vehicle data. The system may have been developed by a boffin but you don't need to be one to use it,” says Richard Bamber, partner, Anthony's Travel.

The Genius system's CCTV Health Checker is configured to automatically notify Synectics' helpdesk that the system is recording and all the coaches cameras are functioning, or a fault has been detected.

Looking further ahead, Anthony's Travel plans to use the Genius system's driver quality training features to reduce the company's carbon footprint. “We have an excellent team of drivers. Genius will show them how they can use their driving skills to drive in a more environmentally friendly way,” Richard notes.
