 Synectics is a leading supplier of specialist rail vehicle CCTV solutions, having equipped two of London’s metro fleets with digital video recording systems and powerful video search and replay equipment.
Backing up these systems is a fully comprehensive maintenance package ensuring that equipment faults are quickly diagnosed, repaired and returned to service with minimal downtime. The systems have been extremely successful in delivering usable video pictures to the Police for investigation of serious crimes, including assaults.
TransportThe Surveillance Technology Centre designs and manufactures systems to the precise needs of customers, thereby ensuring that the solutions fulfil the end user’s requirements without compromise. The company operates from Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, and employs around 30 personnel, the majority being qualified engineering and production assembly staff. Currently, the company is building additional digital recording systems for the new Docklands Light Railway vehicles which will enter service prior to the London Olympics in 2012. Synectics Networks provides CCTV control and management systems for large-scale CCTV and security installations such as stations, car parks, maintenance depots and trackside. The Synergy system offers powerful security management capabilities, together with networked digital video recording and the ability to interface with many third-party camera systems, allowing full system integration and control. Synectics Surveillance Technology supplied and installed the entire CCTV system for the Newcastle Metro system, Nexus, which represents a flagship for transport infrastructure operators. Synectics is actively working on the development of next generation CCTV systems, where the emphasis is on digital image processing to provide the rail operator with even greater assistance in tackling crime and vandalism. At the forefront of this technology is our new mobile Digital Video Recorder (DVR) which uses MPEG4 compression to maximise the capacity of the hard disk and provide constant real-time recording capability. Wireless remote access to live and recorded video is available over a choice of transmission media whilst the new Synergy Transport video management suite is able to integrate mobile and fixed camera control in a single control room environment. The Synectics T1000 system is a modular state of the art, versatile, intelligent video processing engine, bringing the latest digital video recording technology to the mobile vehicle market place – embodying both off-train/vehicle WLAN and on-train/vehicle multimedia information system capabilities. The unit is available in Sector specific variants from Bus and Coach, Rail and ‘Blue’ Light applications through to Military vehicle deployment. In addition the unit can be purchased in channel increments from 2 Camera Channels through to 16-Channel capacity with a global recording capacity of 400 Frames per second (480Fps NTSC). The T1000 can capture video in real time, at full D1 resolution on all channels, and compress them using highly efficient H.264 compression technology which is rapidly becoming the industry preferred standard. Indeed the efficient industry leading H.264 compression technique will deliver MPEG-2 quality at 30% - 50% reduction in data rate whilst achieving 25% to 40% saving in data rate when compared to MPEG-4 Part 2. All recordings are secured with digital signature technology as opposed to ‘watermarking’ which is increasingly non-preferred and protected against tampering. All recorded video is stamped with date, time, Frame Rate, Vehicle/car number, ‘G’ sensor and of course GPS data depicting speed and location. This ability to link the video with GPS data at source adds value through the additional dimension of being able to determine where on the route or in the city centre suspects or witnesses boarded or alight from the vehicle. This is of value to security services when faced with the daunting prospect of trawling through hours if not days of video from Static CCTV systems. With the T1000 Synergy Transport Mapping software we can pinpoint the nearest static cameras and thus reduce the scope of the search and time to retrieve collaborative evidence. The T1000 is compact, with a ruggedised enclosure and an exceptionally small footprint. The T1000 DVR can be mounted vertically or horizontally and is additionally rack mountable. With ‘fan-less’ operation as standard the unit has been designed for effective cooling, as well as maximum vibration and shock isolation. The T1000 is also available with varying degrees of ingress protection with IP44 as standard and IP66 & IP67 available to order. The use of industry standard connectors allows ease of integration, while a wide range of voltages ensures compatibility with all standard Rail and commercial vehicle electrical systems. The Synergy Transport management software allows full remote access and control of the T1000, and can integrate mobile and fixed network systems in a single command centre. Due to the ‘in-house’ expertise of the Synectics Synergy Team, clients who have deployed legacy or competitor equipments but are prohibited financially from replacing these with a H.264 system can now competitively utilise the Synergy Transport software to control and manage these systems until which point funding is available to replace. This enables fleet managers to stream line maintenance and bring ‘Mobile’ video into the Operations room. Camera OptionsSynectics Surveillance Technology offers a wide range of on-board camera options covering a comprehensive range of conditions and requirements. On-board cameras may be covert or, if preferred, prominently visible for maximum deterrent effect. All Synectics cameras are high reliability, have impact resistant construction and are supplied with high resolution colour sensors with an option for low light sensitivity. All Synectics Surveillance Technology cameras are fully compliant with BS EN standards.

The multimedia display self-tests and reports any faults to the digital video recorder. Advertising, news and traffic and/or network information can be displayed and updated via WLAN or CD upload. The optional multimedia display has a data log to provide the facility for a content frequency audit. Synectics offers an optional multimedia display. The multimedia display has a high brightness TFT flat panel screen and is supplied with a vandal-resistant enclosure and front glass.
