Hazardous area CCTV surveillance specialist manufacturer, Synectics Industrial Systems, has secured another major installation in Australia with the Cliff Head oil field development project off the coast of Dongara now completed for Roc Oil. With proven field reserves of 14 MMBO and with a total development cost of around AUD227 million, the oil field is the first to be developed in the Western Australia Basin.
Following a review of the security measures, a comprehensive CCTV system was considered to be the most effective approach for the remote monitoring of its unmanned platform at the site. Synectics was selected to provide a high tech CCTV monitoring solution due to their proven product reliability and durability, coupled with a competitive pricing strategy.
From the commencement of the project, Synectics liaised extensively with consultants Worley Parsons and Roc Oil management to provide a tailored CCTV solution for the sites requirements. This was followed by a full system test, which was carried out in September of 2005, and was deemed comprehensively successful prior to installation at the site.

With a total cost of USD300,000, the completed system comprises seven COEXTM manufactured cameras, the locations of which mean they are able to cover all the key operational areas as well as the landing area of the facility.
Benefiting from Synectics Industrial Systems’ extensive specialist knowledge of hazardous environment CCTV systems, a highly successful security system is now in place that provides a production monitoring and security tool in one installation and effectively protects Roc Oil’s investment in the area. It is anticipated that future development plans could be made for the facility, and due to the modular nature of the installation, an extension of the EX CCTV system is available to cover any expanded areas of the site.
Synectics’ development into the Australian market has been accredited to the work done during the tender stage by it’s Singapore office, as Paul Webb, Managing Director of Synectics Industrial Systems explains; “Without a presence in Singapore it would have proved very difficult to communicate with Australia on a daily basis due to the time difference, meaning any issues could potentially take a number of days to resolve. Our Singapore colleagues were able to communicate with Australia easily, resolving any issues quickly and efficiently, to the benefit of both ourselves and Roc Oil.”
